No offense but this question has been asked SO many times! But I like the excitement and they are a damn good read so.. 1. The Mermaids Singing 2. The Wire In The Blood 3. The Last Temptation 4. The Torment Of Others 5. Beneath The Bleeding 6. Fever Of The Bone Enjoy!

I have just joined this forum - only recently read my first Val McDermid book in fact (although familiar through the TV, of course) and this is a really useful thing to know. So thanks for the question and thanks for the answer - happily, I have managed the first two in the right order.

I hate it when you read a good book and realise it wasn't the first in the series! Welcome Sarah, have fun reading the rest of the books they are awesome!

Thanks for your response Dani - it's been a nightmare since reading the first 2 (admittedly I read them back to front but no matter) - i ordered the next 2 online and have only just received them - i know it was only about 10 days but i was having withdrawal symptoms! Here's to more happy reading.

I am an avid serial character fiction reader and just discovered the Tony Hill/Carol Jordon series so I am off hot foot on the first one "The Mermaids Singing" - I am sure they will be great but why v-can the webpage not liste 'serial' books? Are there any other by Val?

Hi there, I am after reading The Mermaids Singing and bought the DVD and also bought the rest of the Tony Hill Novels and was wondering if any of the Tony Hill Books apart from Mermaids singing are the same as the actual series, Wire in The Blood. I know they are loosely connected according to website but I would like to see some of Vals books on dvd as the story is, if they are available

The episode Torment in season 4 is loosely based on the book The torment of others. The story line about Derek Tyler is used in the episode, unfortunately the story about Carol isn't.

I have got just a few pages left of "Fever of the Bone" to read. But having already read all the Tony Hill series once already,I am seriously going into a state of "cold turkey" with no new one to look forward to! They are some of the most riveting books ever!

I am new to Val McDermid and I purchased Fever of the Bone as a holiday read from the Supermarket. So I've definitely read in the wrong order as this is the most recent book in the series. I'm hooked however and intend to purchase and read the rest of the series in order. Many thanks for the list Dani.

Val - I totally love these books! Read them from cover to cover as soon as I buy them. The fever of the bone struck me as being somewhat different from the other Tony Hill books, was this deliberate? (Sorry if it's a stupid question!) I'm definitely addicted!
